HBO Shatters Emmy Record with 142 Nominations, Surpassing Netflix

HBO has set a new personal record for Emmy nominations, leading all networks and streaming services this year. The combined tally for HBO and its streaming platform HBO Max reached 142 nominations, beating out Netflix, which earned 121.

This is the highest number of Emmy nominations HBO has ever received in a single year, surpassing its previous record of 140 in 2022. Last year, HBO fell behind competitors, receiving just 91 nominations.

The impressive results were driven by several of HBO’s biggest shows. The Penguin led the way with 24 nominations, making it the second most-nominated show this year after Apple TV+’s Severance, which received 27.

The White Lotus followed closely with 23 nominations, while The Last of Us received 16. Comedy series Hacks added 14 nominations, and the drama The Pitt collected 13.

Netflix also performed well, improving on last year’s total of 107 nominations. Its standout shows include Adolescence with 13 nominations, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story with 11, and Black Mirror with 10.

Apple TV+ had a strong showing too, earning 79 nominations. Severance led for Apple with 27 nominations, and The Studio received 23. Including its commercials, Apple added two more nominations.

Disney earned a combined 128 nominations across its platforms, including ABC, Disney+, FX, Hulu, and National Geographic. Disney+ grew significantly from 19 nominations last year to 28 this year, led by shows like Andor and Agatha All Along, as well as the documentary Beatles ’64.

The 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards are set to celebrate television’s biggest achievements, with streaming services and traditional networks competing in a rapidly changing entertainment landscape.
