Hayley Atwell, who played Peggy Carter in the Captain America films and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, has expressed a strong desire to reprise her role as Captain Carter in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars films.

Atwell’s portrayal of Peggy Carter quickly became a fan favorite after her debut in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011). She later appeared in several Marvel projects, including her own TV series, Agent Carter, and voiced the Variant version of her character, Captain Carter, in What If…?.

In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the live-action Captain Carter made a brief yet exciting appearance, only to be killed off by the Scarlet Witch in a disappointing and underwhelming scene.

Despite this, Atwell remains hopeful about Captain Carter’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Speaking to Den of Geek while promoting Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Atwell revealed that she would “love” to return to the role, particularly in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.

“There are so many things that she could do, there’s so much more I feel I can bring to a character because I’ve developed as time’s gone on,” Atwell said. “What’s so great about having time behind you and having had a 20-year career so far is the development of skill, and I think there’s so much more that Peggy can do. She’s very much an underserved character.”

Atwell went on to explain that Peggy Carter’s development has been limited, despite her potential. “When she says ‘I know my value and everyone else’s opinion doesn’t really matter,’ it’s because she hasn’t been given the platform that she knows she deserves,” Atwell continued. “So to be able to take her to that next level as Captain Carter would be phenomenal. Especially with all my Mission: Impossible training. I am ready, let’s go!”

Fans have long hoped for a more meaningful return for Captain Carter, and Avengers: Doomsday could be the perfect opportunity to redeem her brief and unsatisfying cameo. Although the character was killed in What If…?, Atwell’s return could likely involve a different Variant of Captain Carter.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on May 1, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars scheduled for May 7, 2027.
