Grand Theft Auto 6 was originally targeting a release in late 2025, according to new comments from Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick. He called the delay to May 26, 2026, a “short one,” confirming it is less than six months from the original plan.
In a recent interview with CNBC, Zelnick said Rockstar Games had planned to launch GTA 6 around late November or early December 2025, but the game is now set to arrive in late May 2026. This six-month shift gives Rockstar more time to polish the game.
The delay was confirmed earlier this month, ending months of silence from Rockstar after its initial trailer dropped in December 2023. That trailer said the game would release in 2025. Later, Take-Two narrowed the window to Fall 2025, but no exact date was given—until now.
Fans are now hoping this new release date holds, especially since Rockstar has a history of delaying big games. Red Dead Redemption 2 was delayed twice before its final launch in 2018. However, Zelnick noted that once Rockstar sets a specific date, they usually stick to it.
Development on GTA 6 officially began in 2020, though pre-production likely started earlier, possibly in 2018 or 2019, right after Red Dead Redemption 2’s success.
With a full year left until launch, fans are keeping their hopes up for no more delays.
