Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has explained that the recent delay of Grand Theft Auto 6’s release to May 26, 2026 was a deliberate choice to let Rockstar “achieve its creative vision with no limitations.”
Originally targeted for fall 2025, GTA 6 was pushed back so the team could add the needed polish to meet the high expectations.
Zelnick told IGN that while delays are painful, supporting the team’s search for “perfection” was the right move.
He added that the chance to take “a small amount of incremental time” was worth it for the game’s quality, and implied another delay is unlikely, citing Take-Two’s history of meeting set deadlines.
Despite the delay, Take-Two’s slate remains busy with titles like Borderlands 4, Mafia: The Old Country, and new NBA 2K and WWE 2K games expected soon.
Meanwhile, fans can dive into the latest GTA 6 trailer showcasing impressive realism and detail.
