Rockstar Games may not meet the planned November 19, 2026, release date for Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), according to Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier. Speaking on the Button Mash podcast, Schreier said the game is “still not content complete”, with missions, levels, and core features far from finalised.
Developers are actively polishing, cutting, and refining content to streamline the final build. Schreier noted that while the November 2026 date feels “a little more real” than previous targets, no one at Rockstar can guarantee the game will be ready by then.
Rockstar’s perfectionist approach is a key factor. The studio, known for hits like GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, has historically delayed releases to maintain quality. Schreier emphasised that the company “would rather let [the release date] slip again than release it in a compromised state,” especially as GTA 6 is projected to be one of the largest entertainment launches ever, potentially worth billions to parent company Take-Two Interactive.
This uncertainty follows two prior delays: the game was first postponed from Fall 2025 to May 2026, and later to November 2026, both to allow for extra polish. Take-Two’s fiscal year ends March 31, 2027, offering some flexibility, though analysts caution that repeated delays may erode hype and affect stock performance.
Fans remain divided on social media, with some bracing for a 2027 launch, while others cite Schreier’s track record of accurately predicting prior delays as a reason for cautious optimism. Rockstar has not issued an official comment, and attention now turns to Take-Two’s next earnings call in February for potential updates.
Until then, fans may have to wait a little longer to return to Vice City.
