Rockstar Games faced another leak this Christmas, revealing design documents for Grand Theft Auto 3, San Andreas, and a scrapped project called GTA 3 Online.
The leaks were shared by a user named John Doe on the Internet Archive and verified by Obbe Vermeij, former technical director at Rockstar North.
The leaked documents focus on Grand Theft Auto 3 Online, a planned multiplayer version of the 2001 classic.
According to the leaks, Rockstar Games had ambitious features in mind, including:
The leaks also mention six additional girlfriends originally planned for GTA San Andreas, including:
According to Obbe Vermeij, the multiplayer version of GTA 3 was abandoned due to its incomplete state.
Players could earn points by killing others, stealing cars, and engaging in various activities, but the project needed significant improvements.
Rockstar North handed the project to Barking Dog Studios (later Rockstar Vancouver), but the studio shifted focus to Bully after initial exploration.
Fans were disappointed that Rockstar Games broke its 15-year tradition of releasing new screenshots for upcoming GTA titles on Christmas Eve.
However, the leaks provided a rare glimpse into the studio’s early ideas.
This is the second consecutive year Rockstar Games has dealt with Christmas leaks, following a similar incident in 2023.
