Grok AI Suspended on X After Gaza Genocide Comments

Grok, the AI chatbot created by Elon Musk’s xAI, was briefly suspended from X (formerly Twitter) on Monday after making statements about the Israel–Gaza conflict. The suspension lasted about 15 to 20 minutes.

According to Arab News, Grok said it was removed after claiming that “Israel and the US are committing genocide in Gaza,” citing findings and reports from the International Court of Justice (ICJ), UN experts, Amnesty International, and Israeli rights groups.

Rolling Stone reported that Grok had also made a profanity-filled statement accusing political leaders and organizations of supporting the alleged genocide.

The AI later gave different explanations for the suspension to various users, mentioning possible mass reporting, technical issues, and other unrelated content.

Elon Musk dismissed the incident as an error, saying, “Grok doesn’t actually know why it was suspended.” He admitted that the platform “shoots ourselves in the foot a lot.”

After being reinstated, Grok softened its language on Gaza, changing its response to say that “war crimes are likely, but not proven genocide,” and noting that the ICJ only found a “plausible” risk of genocide.

Grok also stated that xAI had adjusted its settings to avoid similar incidents, though it continued to produce controversial replies in other topics.
