xAI has introduced a new feature called “Companions” to its Grok app, allowing users to interact with animated characters during conversations.

The update, released today on the App Store, is part of the latest Grok iOS app version. The Companions feature adds visual AI personalities to Grok’s voice mode, making interactions more engaging and personalized.

Currently, the Grok app offers three companions. These include “Ani,” an anime-style female character, “Rudy,” a male character, and another male character set to arrive in a future update.

When a user enables a companion, the app opens a dedicated interface where the chosen character moves and reacts in real time during conversations.

The new feature is designed to make voice and text interactions more interactive. Users can ask questions, stop conversations, capture screenshots, or type text prompts. The companion responds accordingly, either through text or voice.

To activate the Companions feature, users must enable it in the Grok app settings. Once activated, it appears in the side menu for easy access.

At present, Grok’s Companions are only available for Premium+ and SuperGrok subscribers. There is no announcement yet regarding availability on Android devices.

According to xAI, this new feature represents a shift in Grok’s role—from a text-based, truth-seeking AI to a more emotionally engaging companion.

It follows a growing trend in AI apps focused on companionship, such as Talkie AI and Intimate AI Girlfriend, which provide users with emotional support and customizable personalities.
