Google’s New AI App Lets You Try On Any Outfit Without Shopping

Google has launched Doppl, a new AI-powered app that lets you try on different outfits virtually using just your phone.

The app builds on technology Google showed at its I/O event in May. It works like the virtual closet scene from the 1990s movie “Clueless,” but with modern AI.

How Doppl Works

The process is simple:

  1. Take a photo of clothes you want to try
  2. Upload the image to the Doppl app
  3. See how the outfit looks on you realistically
  4. View a short video showing different angles

The app can handle clothes you see anywhere – from friends’ outfits to thrift shop finds or social media posts.

Key Features

Virtual Try-On: Upload any clothing photo to see how it looks on your body
Video Preview: Creates short videos showing the outfit from multiple angles
Save and Share: Keep your favorite looks and share them with friends
Social Integration: Share outfits with followers on social media

The Technology Behind It

Doppl uses Google’s custom Imagen AI model. This technology understands:

  • Body depth and dimensions
  • Different fabric textures
  • How clothes behave and move
  • Realistic fitting based on body shape

The same AI powers Google’s other virtual try-on features, ensuring high-quality results.

What Google Says

“With Doppl, you can try out any look, so if you see an outfit you like from a friend, at a local thrift shop, or featured on social media, you can upload a photo of it into Doppl and imagine how it might look on you,” Google explained in its announcement.

Availability

Doppl is available now as a free download on:

  • Google Play Store
  • Apple App Store

Important Note: The app is currently only available in the United States. Users in other countries won’t find it in their app stores yet.

Why This Matters

Virtual try-on technology could change how people shop for clothes online. Instead of guessing how items will fit, shoppers can see realistic previews before buying.

The app could also help with styling decisions and reduce returns from online shopping.

Google’s entry into virtual fashion shows how AI is expanding beyond search and productivity into everyday activities like shopping and personal style.

The technology represents a significant step toward more interactive and personalized shopping experiences using artificial intelligence.
