Google has officially announced the Pixel 10 smartphone at its annual Made by Google event, introducing the first-ever telephoto lens to the base Pixel lineup.
The new Pixel 10 will go on sale on 28 August and is now available for preorder starting at $799. It features a triple-lens rear camera system, a first for the standard Pixel model, marking the most notable hardware change compared with last year’s Pixel 9.
First Telephoto Lens on a Base Pixel
The Pixel 10 adds a 10.8-megapixel telephoto camera alongside its 48MP wide and 13MP ultrawide lenses. Previous base models lacked a dedicated zoom lens.
However, both the wide and ultrawide cameras now have lower megapixel counts than the Pixel 9, which used 50MP and 48MP sensors, respectively.
While the drop in resolution may concern some users, the addition of optical zoom could improve image versatility, particularly for distant subjects.
Familiar Design and Core Specs
In appearance, the Pixel 10 closely resembles the Pixel 9. Key specifications include:
- 6.3-inch display with 1080×2424 resolution and 60–120Hz adaptive refresh rate
- Up to 3,000 nits peak brightness
- 12GB RAM and 128GB or 256GB storage
- Powered by Google’s Tensor G5 chipset
- 4,970 mAh battery, with Google claiming over 30 hours of battery life
Battery performance has been a weak point for previous models, so improvements will be closely watched after launch.
The phone will be available in four colors: Indigo, Frost, Lemongrass, and Obsidian.
New AI-Powered Features
Google is also introducing new AI tools across the Pixel 10 series:
- Magic Cue, which suggests actions based on user activity (e.g., displaying flight info when calling an airline)
- Live Translate for real-time translations during phone calls
- Daily Hub, which summarizes calendar events, weather, and news
Pixel 10 vs Pixel 10 Pro
The more expensive Pixel 10 Pro starts at $999 and offers upgraded specifications:
- 16GB RAM, up to 1TB storage
- Higher-resolution cameras, including a 42MP front camera and 100× zoom
- 8K video recording, which is not available on the base Pixel 10
- Additional color options, including light pink
