Google Photos Update Brings New Look and Features

Google Photos has just received a major app update, making it easier for users to navigate their galleries and view photo information. The redesigned photo view offers a cleaner, more modern interface, along with several new features to improve the user experience.

One of the most noticeable changes is the new light mode, which automatically matches the photo view background to your device’s system theme. Now, when you open an image, the app clearly shows details like the date, time, and location at the top of each photo.

You’ll also see pill-shaped “badges” underneath these details that let you quickly play or pause a Live Photo, change the photo’s category, or save and manage images.

More actions are now found under a new three-dot menu at the top right of each photo. This menu includes options like About, Create, Cast, Save as, Download, Delete from device, and Google Lens.

Google Lens has moved to this menu to make room for a new “Add to” menu, which helps you archive photos, place them in albums, or stash them in a locked folder.

Photo stacks and burst images also get their own three-dot menus, letting you change the top image, remove photos, unstack, or select multiple images for bulk actions.

These updates are available now for iPhone users and will roll out to Android soon. No features have been removed, but some options may have moved to new places within the app.

Stay tuned for more updates as Google continues to improve its Photos experience on both iOS and Android.
