Google Extends OS Support for Google Pixel 6 and Later Models by Two Years

Google has just announced it will give more life to older Pixel phones by extending their software support.

The Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel Fold will now get five years of operating system (OS) updates, instead of just three.

Previously, older Pixel models like the Pixel 6 received only three years of OS updates, with two years of security patches.

Now, these devices will be supported until 2026 (for the Pixel 6) and until 2028 (for the Pixel 7a and Pixel Fold).

This change is a big deal for people who want to keep their phones longer without missing out on important updates.

It shows how Google is improving software support for Android devices, following the example set by companies like Samsung.

Next year, Android will have a new release schedule, with Android 16 possibly coming by the middle of 2025. A Developer Preview for Android 16 is already available for testing.
