Google Confirms No Pixel Flip, Tablet 2, or Smart Ring—Here’s Why

Google Pixel Flip Concept

Google has confirmed that some products won’t be joining its lineup anytime soon, despite rumors and market competition.

Speaking with Bloomberg after the launch of the Pixel 10 series, Google executives ruled out plans for a flip foldable phone, a Pixel Tablet 2, or a smart ring.

Shakil Barkat, Google’s Vice President of Devices and Services, said the company wants to avoid stretching itself too thin. “Every time a new type of category of product gets added, the bar on maintenance for the end user keeps going up,” Barkat explained. “It’s already pretty painful.”

The Pixel Tablet, released in 2023, is now on hold until Google can find a “meaningful future” for the category. Similarly, while Samsung and others continue to release flip-style foldables, Google is sticking with its existing Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

As for smart rings, a product area gaining traction with companies like Samsung and Oura, Google has no immediate plans to compete. The future of smart glasses also remains uncertain, with executives saying the category is still “to be determined.”

Instead, Google is doubling down on phones and artificial intelligence. Hardware chief Rick Osterloh described the Pixel 10 launch as a “super strong release” and confirmed that work is already underway on the Pixel 11 and Pixel 12.

Design chief Ivy Ross added that Pixel phones will see major visual updates “every two to three years,” while AI features powered by Gemini, such as Magic Cue, are expected to drive the next wave of innovation.
