Google App Gets Pinterest-Like Image Feed for Personalized Discovery

Google has started rolling out a new “Images” tab in its app that creates personalized visual feeds similar to Pinterest. The feature is currently available to beta users who can build custom image collections based on their interests.

The new Images tab appears in Google app version 16.23.71 beta and lets users select interest categories to create tailored visual feeds using publicly available search images.

How the Feature Works

When users first open the Images tab, they must choose at least three topics from categories like Fashion, Home Decor, and Travel. These selections create a personalized image feed pulled from Google Search results.

Users can interact with images by long-pressing to share them, save them to collections, or search using Google Lens. The feature also allows users to hide images they don’t want to see in their feed.

The visual layout resembles Pinterest’s mood board style, showing a grid of images tailored to each user’s selected interests.

Beta Testing Phase

Google is currently testing the feature with beta users to gather feedback before a potential wider release. The company will use this feedback to make improvements and fix any bugs.

The feature was previously spotted in development earlier this year but required technical workarounds to access. Now it’s rolling out more widely to beta testers as Google prepares for a possible public launch.

Pinterest-Style Visual Discovery

The new Images tab represents Google’s entry into Pinterest-style visual discovery. Users can browse images for inspiration on topics like interior design, fashion, and travel without needing to perform specific searches.

This approach differs from traditional Google search by providing a continuous feed of visual content based on user preferences rather than specific search queries.

Release Timeline

Based on the current state of the feature, Google appears close to releasing it to all users. The polished interface and wide beta rollout suggest the company is in the final testing phases.

Google has not announced an official release date for the Images tab in the stable version of its app. The timeline will depend on beta user feedback and any necessary adjustments Google decides to make.
