Google Adds Bottom Address Bar Option to Chrome for Android

Google is finally giving Chrome users on Android phones the option to move their address bar to the bottom of the screen.

The new feature lets users move the address bar, tab switcher, and menu buttons from the top to the bottom of their phone screen. Users can still keep the address bar at the top if they prefer.

Google says this change makes browsing easier on large phones. “Depending on the size of your hand and your device, one address bar position may feel more comfortable than the other,” the company explained.

To use the new feature, users can long-press the address bar and select “Move address bar to bottom.” They can also change this setting by going to Settings > Address Bar in the Chrome app.

The update is rolling out starting today and will reach all users within the next few weeks. Users need to have the latest version of Chrome installed to access the feature.

Chrome for iPhone already got this feature in 2023. Google has been considering a bottom address bar for Android Chrome for several years, with recent development picking up speed in October.

The change should make it easier for people to browse the web with one hand on today’s tall smartphones.
