Ghislaine Maxwell Pushes to Block Public Access to Secret Testimony

Ghislaine Maxwell with Jeffrey Epstein

Ghislaine Maxwell, the former girlfriend of Jeffrey Epstein, does not want grand jury transcripts from her sex trafficking case made public, her lawyers said Tuesday.

Maxwell’s legal team argued that the transcripts contain unchallenged and possibly unreliable testimony. They said releasing the records would violate her rights, even though she hasn’t seen the material herself. Grand jury proceedings are kept private by law.

“Public interest in Epstein is not a reason to break grand jury secrecy,” her lawyers wrote in a court filing.

Federal prosecutors are asking a judge to unseal the transcripts but not the evidence shown to the grand jury. They say much of the information was already revealed during Maxwell’s 2021 trial or shared by victims and witnesses publicly.

The transcripts involve only two law enforcement witnesses. Prosecutors have warned that people should not expect major new details from their release.

Maxwell, 63, is serving a 20-year sentence for helping Epstein abuse underage girls. She has denied the charges and is appealing her conviction.

The case remains politically sensitive. On Tuesday, the House Oversight Committee issued subpoenas for case records and called several top officials — including former Presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump — for questioning. Both men had ties to Epstein but deny any wrongdoing.

Maxwell was recently moved from a Florida prison to a lower-security facility in Texas. Officials did not give a reason for the transfer.
