NVIDIA has officially released the DLSS 4 plugin for Unreal Engine 5.6, bringing its latest AI-powered upscaling technology to developers working with the newest version of the popular game engine.
DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) 4 debuted alongside NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs earlier this year and represents a major advancement in AI-driven graphics rendering.
While some features of DLSS 4 are exclusive to the RTX 50 series, the technology is compatible with all RTX GPUs, leveraging NVIDIA’s new Transformer AI model.
Previously, Unreal Engine 5 versions from 5.0 onwards supported DLSS 4, but the new plugin now extends support to versions 5.5 and 5.6. This allows developers to optimize games and projects created with these later engine versions by integrating advanced features like Frame Generation, Multi-Frame Generation, Ray Reconstruction, and Super Resolution.
Unreal Engine 5.6, released last month, offers significant CPU and GPU performance improvements. Combined with NVIDIA’s Transformer model—which consumes 20% less VRAM than previous models—developers can deliver higher visual quality with lower resource usage.
The Transformer AI model replaces the older CNN model used in earlier DLSS versions (1 through 3.5), enhancing efficiency and image fidelity. With this new plugin, Unreal Engine 5.6 projects can achieve smoother gameplay and better graphics, benefiting both developers and gamers.
