Winter’s first snow is expected to blanket much of South Korea, including Seoul, on Wednesday, as rain turns to snow.

The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) forecasts a sharp drop in temperatures from Tuesday evening, with the rain transitioning into snow as cold air moves in.

Snow is expected to primarily affect central regions from Wednesday, with strong winds contributing to a colder spell. Accumulations vary across the country:

  • Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi Province: 3-8 cm, with over 10 cm in eastern Gyeonggi
  • Gangwon Province: 5-15 cm, up to 20 cm in mountainous areas
  • Daejeon, Sejong, South Chungcheong: 1-5 cm
  • North Chungcheong: 5-10 cm
  • North Jeolla: 3-10 cm, with over 15 cm in some areas
  • North Gyeongsang: 5-10 cm in the east, 2-7 cm inland in South Gyeongsang

Heavy snowfall is expected in eastern Gyeonggi, Gangwon, and North Jeolla regions, with temperatures ranging from minus 6°C to 11°C.

Snow may persist in some areas on Thursday, with slightly colder conditions forecast.
