“Final Destination: Bloodlines” shocked the box office with a strong $51 million opening in North America. The horror film also earned another $51 million overseas, making a total of $102 million worldwide in its first weekend.
The movie, from Warner Bros. and New Line, easily took the No. 1 spot, pushing Marvel’s “Thunderbolts*” down to second place. It also beat newcomer “Hurry Up Tomorrow” from The Weeknd, which opened in sixth place with just $3.3 million.
“Bloodlines” is the sixth film in the popular horror series. It had the best debut in the franchise’s history, beating 2009’s $27 million opening.

The film cost about $50 million to make and received good reviews, with a 93% Rotten Tomatoes score and a “B+” from CinemaScore.
Analysts called the performance “sensational” and praised the strong audience response. This is Warner Bros.’ third hit in a row after “A Minecraft Movie” and “Sinners.”
Meanwhile, The Weeknd’s movie “Hurry Up Tomorrow” failed to attract viewers. The film got poor reviews, with just 14% on Rotten Tomatoes and a “C-” CinemaScore grade. The $15 million film was released by Lionsgate.

“Thunderbolts*” made $16.5 million in its third weekend. It has earned $155.4 million in the U.S. and $325 million globally but may struggle to turn a profit due to its high budget.

Other top movies include “Sinners” in third place with $15.4 million and “A Minecraft Movie” in fourth with $5.9 million. The Minecraft film has made nearly $928 million worldwide.

As May continues, box office numbers are stronger than last year but still behind pre-pandemic levels.
Big releases like “Lilo & Stitch” and “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning” are expected to boost sales further during the Memorial Day weekend.
