- Hang up the phone: If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and independently verify the caller’s identity by researching their contact details online.
- Create a secret word: Establish a unique word or phrase known only to your family and contacts, to be used in emergency situations for verification purposes.
- Be cautious with sensitive info: Never share personal or financial information with individuals you’ve only met online or over the phone.
The FBI emphasizes that while AI fraud is a growing threat, taking these preventive steps can reduce your risk of falling victim to scams.
