Fans Say This WW2 Movie Is ‘Better Than Dunkirk’ — Leaving Netflix in 10 Days

Atonement

A critically acclaimed World War 2 film, often described by fans as “better than Dunkirk,” is set to leave Netflix in just 10 days.

Atonement, starring Keira Knightley and James McAvoy, will be removed from the platform on June 16 for UK viewers.

Directed by Joe Wright, Atonement tells a heartbreaking story of love, betrayal, and the impact of a single lie.

It features one of the most famous scenes in modern cinema — a stunning five-minute single take showing the Dunkirk evacuation. The scene used 1,000 extras and became a highlight of the movie’s cinematography.

The film received seven Oscar nominations, winning for Best Original Score, and earned young Saoirse Ronan an Oscar nomination at just 13 years old. It also won Best Film at the BAFTAs.

Dunkirk may have gained more attention in recent years, but many film fans argue that Atonement captures the emotion and chaos of war in a more powerful way. Reviews on platforms like Letterboxd and Google praise the film’s storytelling, performances, and visual beauty.

Along with Atonement, Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds will also leave Netflix on June 16. Fans of World War 2 dramas have two weekends left to stream these classics before they’re gone.
