Netflix’s ambitious sci-fi series 3 Body Problem, based on Liu Cixin’s acclaimed novels, won’t be returning anytime soon.
Despite being renewed for more episodes, Season 2 may not air until 2028, a full four years after Season 1 premiered in March 2024.
According to Hungary’s National Film Office, seasons 2 and 3 will be filmed back-to-back from July 2025 to August 2027, meaning a long production stretch before post-production even begins.
That puts Season 2’s likely release date in early 2028, one of the longest waits between seasons in Netflix history, rivaling delays from shows like Wednesday or Stranger Things.
While the show received decent reviews (79% critics, 77% audience on Rotten Tomatoes), it didn’t exactly become a breakout hit or cultural phenomenon.
Despite a reported $20 million per episode budget, Netflix seems committed—likely due to the involvement of Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who are under an ongoing Netflix deal.
Critics and fans alike are now wondering: Will anyone still care about Season 2 in 2028?
Streaming delays are becoming increasingly common, but this one sets a new bar. Once an industry that delivered yearly hits like Game of Thrones, streaming now seems locked in a cycle of multi-year production timelines—and fans are running out of patience.
