Rockstar Games has remained silent on the future of the Red Dead series, but fans are already debating whether Red Dead Redemption 3 is the right direction—or a mistake.
While Red Dead Redemption 2 wrapped up the story of John Marston and Arthur Morgan in a satisfying way, the open-ended fate of some characters has left room for potential sequels or spin-offs.
A discussion on Reddit recently sparked mixed opinions. Some players want a fresh take on the series, with suggestions like Red Dead Revolution, Rebellion, or Retribution.
Others believe that instead of a third Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar should revisit Red Dead Revolver, the 2004 game that started it all.
One fan said, “My preference would be a new entry into the Red Dead franchise that focuses on a new central theme entirely. I wouldn’t want the story to focus on the concept of redemption forever.”
Another added, “Definitely RDR3. I personally think Revolver should be re-released and modernized before it gets a second game.”
Some players are strongly against another Red Dead Redemption entry, believing that the story has already reached its natural conclusion. A comment supporting Revolver 2 read, “Go back to the real Wild West era. Don’t have a protagonist that dies—I like getting revenge more than getting redemption.”
With Rockstar still focused on GTA VI, it’s unclear when the next Red Dead game will be announced, let alone what direction it will take.
Whether it’s Red Dead Redemption 3, Red Dead Revolver 2, or something entirely new, fans will have to wait to see what’s next for the beloved Western franchise.
