Ex-Rockstar Dev Says GTA 7 or RDR3 Is Likely Already in Development

A former Rockstar Games developer says he would be “shocked” if GTA 7 or Red Dead Redemption 3 is not already in development. The comments come as fans continue to wait for the release of GTA 6, which is currently set for November 19.

Mike York, who worked as an animator on GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, shared his thoughts in an interview with Esports Bets. He said Rockstar is most likely already working on its next major title.

According to York, large studios rarely focus on just one project at a time. He explained that once a game nears the end of production, work usually begins on the next one.

With GTA 6 now close to release, York said it would be surprising if Rockstar had not already started early development on GTA 7 or RDR3. He added that this is standard practice across the gaming industry.

However, York warned fans not to expect these games anytime soon. He believes a new Red Dead or GTA title would not release before the early 2030s, based on Rockstar’s long development cycles.

He pointed to the more than 10-year gap between GTA 5 and GTA 6 as a clear example. Games of this scale often take five to seven years or longer to complete.

York also noted that Rockstar’s next project may not even be part of the GTA or Red Dead series. Still, he is confident that something major is already in progress behind the scenes.

For now, fans remain focused on GTA 6, which insiders say could set a new standard for open-world games. As for GTA 7 or RDR3, the wait may be long — but the groundwork may already be laid.
