Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, has raised $6 billion in a Series C funding round, bringing its valuation to over $40 billion.

The funds will be used to enhance the company’s AI products and infrastructure, including its Grok AI model and a massive supercomputer site in Memphis, Tennessee, which is crucial for training AI models.

Key investors in the round include Blackrock, A16Z, Kingdom Holding, Fidelity, and Sequoia Capital, who also participated in the company’s Series B funding round earlier this year. The latest round brings xAI’s total funding for 2024 to $12 billion.

xAI is working on its next-generation AI model, Grok 3, which is expected to launch by the end of the year. The company’s supercomputer, “Colossus,” is equipped with 100,000 Nvidia GPUs and will eventually expand to handle even more intensive AI training workloads.

Although xAI’s Grok 2 model is currently available on X (formerly Twitter), Grok 3 is expected to offer significant improvements in computing power and responsiveness.
