Stranger Things may be over, but the Duffer Brothers are continuing the universe with a new spinoff series. Fans should not expect returning characters or familiar settings. Ross Duffer confirmed the story will be “an entirely new mythology.”

Speculation had suggested the spinoff might focus on Holly Wheeler’s gang or the Wheelers moving to Montauk. Ross Duffer dismissed these theories, saying the series will not involve Montauk, Holly, or the main Hawkins cast. Instead, it will tell a smaller, standalone story.

The creators promise the spinoff will answer some lingering questions from Stranger Things. Matt Duffer highlighted one key detail: the rock in Vecna’s briefcase, found in the caves during his childhood. This object will be important in the new series and will explain part of Vecna’s origins.

The series will not revisit the Mind Flayer or Hawkins’ supernatural events. Instead, it will explore a fresh story with new characters, a new town, and its own mythology. “It’s very exciting to work with a clean slate,” Ross Duffer said.

Fans can expect a familiar tone but with a completely new narrative framework. The Duffer Brothers aim to maintain the eerie, mysterious vibe while introducing original elements that expand the Stranger Things universe in a different direction.
