A minute of surveillance footage from the night Jeffrey Epstein died, which was thought to be missing, may actually exist.
In July 2025, the US Justice Department released almost 11 hours of video from the prison where Epstein died in 2019. However, the time code jumped from just before 11:59 pm to midnight, causing questions about a missing minute.
Attorney General Pam Bondi said the gap was due to old technology from 1999 and an automatic tape change. But a source told the Daily Mail that the DOJ and FBI have the original, “raw footage” of the missing minute.
This footage is important because Epstein’s death has sparked many questions and conspiracy theories. Officially, his death was ruled a suicide, but some doubt this because of Epstein’s connections to powerful people and his criminal charges involving trafficking underage girls.
President Donald Trump has faced pressure to release more files related to Epstein. Recently, Trump claimed that Epstein took young women, including Virginia Giuffre who later died by suicide, from his Mar-a-Lago resort.
Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s former girlfriend, who is serving 20 years in prison for her role in the crimes, was recently interviewed by the Justice Department. The contents of that interview remain unknown.
The discovery or release of the “missing minute” could shed more light on the circumstances of Epstein’s death and ongoing questions around the case.
