‘Dispatch’ Writer Regrets Cutting Sex Scenes from Hit Game

Robert Robertson & Blonde Blazer in Dispatch

Dispatch writer Pierre Shorette says he regrets removing sex scenes from the game’s first season. The episodic superhero workplace comedy, developed by AdHoc, released its final two episodes this week.

Shorette told Inverse that the team cut several romantic scenes during development and now believes “we shouldn’t have.” He said fans showed far more interest in the game’s relationship choices than expected, even though romance was not the main focus.

In Dispatch, players can pursue two romance options: Blonde Blazer or Invisgal. Shorette said these routes became “meaningful” for many players, which made the cuts more noticeable in hindsight.

He explained that the studio did not plan for more romance options because it did not expect such a strong reaction to the characters and their relationships. Shorette also noted that he tends to include romance elements in his writing, even when aiming for more serious storytelling.

The writer said community feedback has helped the team understand what resonated most, adding that the game blends humor, action, and emotional moments. He also suggested that the removed scenes might be released in the future.

Shorette acknowledged that some ideas had to be dropped because AdHoc is still a small independent studio. High production costs and branching storylines made it difficult to include everything the team wanted.

Dispatch has been a major success, selling more than 1 million copies in its first 10 days. This strong reception has encouraged the studio to consider a second season.
