Disney+ has surprised Marvel fans with the sudden release of Eyes of Wakanda, a brand-new canon Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) series that launched today without any major announcement or promotion.
The four-episode animated series explores Wakandan history through the missions of warriors sent to recover Vibranium artifacts across time. Though short—each episode is about 30 minutes—it’s officially part of MCU’s main Earth timeline and predates even Captain America: The First Avenger in chronology.
One episode takes place during the Trojan War, while another introduces the fourth Iron Fist in MCU history, set in an ancient past. Despite no marketing push, Eyes of Wakanda has received early praise from critics, earning a 100% score based on eight initial reviews.
This isn’t the first time Disney has quietly dropped a Marvel show. Earlier this year, Ironheart was released in a similar low-key fashion. While Marvel previously announced a slowdown in its TV output, the recent stealth releases have puzzled fans and analysts.
The show is already available in full for streaming and has been added to the official MCU timeline. While some viewers may not be fond of the animation style, early reactions suggest the storytelling is strong and offers fresh depth to Wakanda’s legacy.
Upcoming Marvel content includes Marvel Zombies (December 2025), Wonder Man (July 2026), new episodes of Daredevil, a Punisher special, and VisionQuest.
For now, Eyes of Wakanda offers fans a quick and compelling dive into the ancient roots of Wakanda—without needing to wait week-to-week.
