Google is tightening Android security, but a new warning highlights a dangerous setting that could put users at risk.

Disabling Google Play Protect is now a major security concern, as cybercriminals use this tactic to install malicious apps.

The attack begins with fraudulent ads on platforms like WhatsApp or TikTok, where victims are tricked into paying a small “membership fee.”

When the payment fails, attackers guide them to disable Play Protect, which helps prevent harmful downloads, to install the malicious app.

Play Protect is an essential security feature designed to keep Android devices safe. Disabling it allows malware to bypass Google’s defenses, putting users at risk of financial loss and further attacks.

Google and Samsung are improving security, making it harder to disable Play Protect in the future.

For now, users should never disable Play Protect, unless they are absolutely sure about an app’s origin and safety.
