The fifth week of the trial against hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs focused on testimony from his recent ex-girlfriend, who shared painful details about their relationship. Known only as “Jane” in court, she described how their romance started with love and luxury but later turned into trauma.
Jane said that after months of what seemed like fantasy talk, Combs pushed her into intense sex sessions with other men while he watched. She said she felt forced to participate even when she wanted to stop. Jane broke down in tears during her six days on the stand, the longest testimony of any witness so far.
A key issue this week was the possible removal of Juror Number Six. The juror, a corrections officer, mentioned he recently moved to New Jersey, raising doubts about his eligibility to serve on the New York jury. Judge Arun Subramanian expressed concerns about the juror’s inconsistent answers and the fairness of the trial. The juror was told not to return to court Monday, but Combs’ lawyer asked for a chance to clear up the confusion. The judge said he would reconsider.
The trial also saw a surprise visit from rapper Kanye West. He briefly attended the courthouse to watch part of the proceedings before leaving.
Another notable moment involved connections to Britney Spears. Combs’ business accountant, Robin Greenhill, is linked to the management team that oversaw Spears during her conservatorship. Emails involving Greenhill appeared in court as part of Jane’s testimony.
Prosecutors tried to introduce text messages about Combs counting over $1 million in cash and warnings about violence involving Combs and a girlfriend. However, the judge ruled these messages could not be shown to the jury.
Voice notes from Combs to Jane were played, revealing his anger after Jane backed out of a sexual encounter. Combs warned Jane to “get on your job,” which prosecutors say meant continuing the encounters. Jane said Combs often reminded her of the financial support he provided during arguments.
Jane also described a violent incident in June 2024, weeks after Combs publicly apologized for attacking another ex-girlfriend in 2016. Jane said Combs physically attacked her during a fight at her home and forced her into a sexual encounter afterward.
The prosecution plans to finish presenting its case next week. The defense expects to start calling witnesses soon but has not yet revealed who they will call.
