Actress Demi Moore has said that her A Few Good Men co-star Tom Cruise may have felt “embarrassed” by her pregnancy during the film’s preproduction.
Speaking at the New Yorker Festival on October 25, Moore said she was nearly eight months pregnant with her second daughter, Scout Willis, while rehearsing lines with director Rob Reiner and Cruise. She recalled, “I actually felt okay about it… but I could tell he felt that it was a bit awkward.”
Moore suggested Cruise’s discomfort may have been influenced by Hollywood norms at the time, when many actors and industry peers were not starting families. “It’s one of the many things, for me, that just didn’t make sense,” she said, noting the pressure she felt to show that women could balance motherhood and a demanding acting career.

The actress described taking extraordinary measures to stay in shape and perform while pregnant. She recounted a two-and-a-half-hour hike the day her water broke, a 24-mile bike ride, and dancing at a reggae club before giving birth.
Moore also reflected on the challenges faced by women in Hollywood at the time, including limited support for mothers on set. She said younger actresses today are better supported, allowing them to navigate career and family without the same pressures she experienced.
American actor Tom Cruise has not commented on Moore’s remarks.
