A serious new threat has been identified targeting Android users worldwide. Over 8 million users have fallen victim to “SpyLoan” apps, which exploit social engineering tactics to steal sensitive information, harass users, and cause financial loss.
McAfee’s research team recently flagged 15 of these apps, which have already been removed from the Google Play Store, but the damage has been done for many.
These apps, which promise quick loans with minimal requirements, often lure users with promises that seem too good to be true.
Instead of providing financial help, they trap users in debt cycles and violate privacy. These deceptive apps use a common framework to control installed apps, exfiltrate personal data, and manipulate users.
