Dark Sector, the 2008 third-person shooter by Warframe developer Digital Extremes, is now free on Steam for 72 hours.

This promotion celebrates the upcoming Warframe: 1999 expansion, set for a December 2024 release.

While users in Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa are excluded, players worldwide can download the game at no cost instead of its regular $9.99 price tag.

In Dark Sector, you play Hayden Tenno, a covert operative who becomes infected with a deadly virus, granting him powers and a deadly glaive to defeat enemies.

The game’s mix of action and dark story has drawn praise, though some criticized its repetitive levels and weak narrative.

Warframe: 1999, the new expansion, will transport players to a retro European city, inspired by Dark Sector‘s tone.
