CD Projekt Red has delayed Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.3 to ensure it meets quality standards. The update was originally scheduled for June 26 but will need more development time.

Developer Wants to “Make Sure We’re Happy”

In a tweet, CD Projekt Red explained they “initially hoped to put Update 2.3 in your hands on June 26″ but need “some more time to make sure we’re happy with it.”

The studio did not provide a new release date for the delayed update. Players will have to wait for further announcements about when patch 2.3 will arrive.

Similar Scope to Major Update 2.2

CD Projekt Red revealed that update 2.3 is “aiming for a scope similar to Update 2.2.” This suggests the new patch will be substantial in size and content.

Update 2.2 was a major release that included:

  • More player customization options
  • Custom car paint jobs
  • Photo mode overhauls
  • Ride-alongs with Johnny Silverhand character
  • Traditional bug fixes and improvements

The patch was considered very large, especially since many assumed CD Projekt Red had finished updating Cyberpunk 2077.

Continuing Support Despite Expectations

Update 2.3 follows the surprise release of 2.2, which came about a year after the game-changing 2.1 update. Most players thought the developer was done supporting Cyberpunk 2077 with major updates.

However, CD Projekt Red has continued working on the game, partly motivated by its upcoming Switch 2 port. The company has been preparing Cyberpunk 2077 for Nintendo’s new console.

Future Plans Remain Unclear

The continued updates raise questions about CD Projekt Red’s future plans. The team could be moving to pre-production on a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel or full production of The Witcher 4.

The Switch 2 version has given the developer reason to return to Night City once more, making future support possibilities uncertain.

Quality Over Speed

The delay reflects CD Projekt Red’s focus on quality after the problematic launch of Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020. The company appears committed to releasing polished updates rather than rushing to meet deadlines.

Players have generally been patient with the developer’s ongoing efforts to improve the game through substantial updates.
