Private text messages between actress Blake Lively and singer Taylor Swift have been made public as part of Lively’s ongoing lawsuit against It Ends With Us director and co-star Justin Baldoni.
The messages were included in a legal filing submitted this week by Lively’s lawyers. She has accused Baldoni and his production company, Wayfarer Studios, of sexual harassment, creating a hostile work environment on set, and organising a campaign to damage her reputation. Baldoni has denied the allegations.
The texts, dated December 2024, show Lively expressing concern that the controversy surrounding the film had strained her friendship with Swift. Lively described Swift as a key source of support during the production of the movie.
In her replies, Swift acknowledged that their relationship had become distant. She said she missed Lively and felt their connection had changed during the filming period.
In later messages, Swift criticised Baldoni and suggested he may have been aware that legal action was coming. She asked Lively whether things were “still on track,” to which Lively replied positively. The meaning of the exchange was not made explicit, but Lively filed a formal civil rights complaint shortly afterwards.
Other documents released this week include messages from actor Jenny Slate, who also appeared in the film. In her texts to others, Slate described Baldoni in strongly negative terms and questioned his public image as an ally to women.
The film, released in August 2024, was surrounded by rumours of behind-the-scenes conflict. Lively and Baldoni did not promote the film together, and several cast members publicly aligned themselves with Lively during the press tour.
A judge is expected to decide this week whether Baldoni’s request to dismiss Lively’s lawsuit will be granted. If the case proceeds, a trial is scheduled for May.
