Cordae has opened up about the real reason behind the breakup of his original rap crew, YBN. In a candid conversation with content creator Peaks100, Cordae shared a never-before-heard story about the group’s dissolution.
YBN, which included Cordae, Almighty Jay, and Nahmir, rose to fame in 2017. However, in 2020, Cordae dropped the YBN from his name, announcing his departure from the group.
Since then, the members have spoken about the split, but Cordaeโs latest comments shed light on the internal struggles that led to the breakup.
“There were multiple reasons,” Cordae explained. “Sadly, name one group that stayed together. Not even the Jackson 5 stayed brothers. Wu-Tang Clan went off to do their own thing too.”
He revealed that the lack of unity within the group, especially regarding creative direction and business decisions, played a major role. “We never recorded a song with all three of us,” he admitted.
“The business side was honestly pretty messed up. Things got heated in Europe, and once certain words are said, you can’t take them back.”
Despite the tension, Cordae made it clear there are no hard feelings. “There’s still love,” he said. “But there are some things that canโt be undone.” He remains on good terms with his former bandmates, saying, “Nahmirโs still my homie, and Jay, I still rock with him.”
Cordae has thrived as a solo artist since the split, with successful projects like The Crossroads and multiple tours. His ability to move forward while respecting his past reflects his growth and resilience.
The Crossroads marks another milestone in Cordae’s career. While he wasnโt concerned about first-week sales, the album sold approximately 10,000 copies upon its debut.
