The controversial webtoon Get Schooled, which has faced criticism for promoting racism, misogyny, and corporal punishment, is being adapted into a drama. Kim Moo-yul, known for his roles in Sweet Home 2 and The Roundup: Punishment, is set to star in the lead role.

Directed by Hong Jong-chan, famous for Juvenile Justice, the drama will have a script written by Lee Nam-kyu, known for Daily Dose of Sunshine. Filming is set to begin in the first half of 2025, produced by YLAB Plex and GTist.

First serialized as a webcomic in 2020, Get Schooled explores the challenges of disciplining students after the ban on corporal punishment in Korean schools.

It follows the creation of the Teachers’ Rights Protection Agency, whose officers use violence to restore order in troubled schools.

While popular, the webtoon has sparked backlash for its portrayal of racial minorities and women, including incidents involving physical assault and racial slurs.

In response to the controversy, the production team promised to address these sensitive issues. Director Hong emphasized that the drama would approach the subject matter with responsibility and a refined perspective.

Kim Moo-yul shared that he joined the project to spark important discussions about the state of education and the discrimination within it, trusting Hong’s ability to handle challenging topics.

Despite rumors of Kim Nam-gil initially being considered for the role, he decided to decline due to the webcomic’s controversial content.
