Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film “The Odyssey” will become the first blockbuster in cinema history to put tickets on sale a full year before its release, with advance bookings beginning July 17, 2025.
The highly anticipated adaptation of Homer’s epic poem is scheduled for release on July 17, 2026, making the early ticket availability unprecedented for a major Hollywood film. The move reflects enormous anticipation for Nolan’s most ambitious project to date.
The $250 million production, Nolan’s most expensive film, will be shot entirely with IMAX 70mm cameras and stars Matt Damon as Odysseus. The supporting cast includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron and Jon Bernthal.
The film tells the story of Odysseus’s perilous journey home after the Trojan War, following the ancient Greek hero’s encounters with mythical creatures and divine intervention. Production has taken place across multiple countries including Morocco, Greece, Italy, Scotland and Iceland.
IMAX screenings are expected to be particularly in demand, given that the entire film was designed for the large-format experience. The early ticket sales strategy underscores the movie’s status as a major cinematic event.
Nolan, known for films including “Inception,” “Interstellar” and “Oppenheimer,” has built a reputation for combining practical effects with epic storytelling. “The Odyssey” represents his first foray into adapting classical literature for the screen.
The unprecedented ticket sales timeline demonstrates the film industry’s confidence in Nolan’s drawing power and the enduring appeal of Homer’s timeless tale.
