Carrying Both iPhone and Android: A Look at the Pros and Cons

People are asking if it makes sense to own both an iPhone and an Android phone at the same time. While this is expensive, there are some good reasons to do it.

The main reason is Apple’s closed system. Many Apple products like Apple Watch and HomePod only work with iPhones. If someone wants to use these devices, they need an iPhone, even a cheap one.

Some Android users might want an iPhone to:

    • Share photos easily with family who use iPhones
    • Join iPhone-only group chats
    • Control Apple smart home devices
    • Use Apple Watch

iPhone users might want an Android phone to:

    • Use a Pixel Watch
    • Try different types of Android phones
    • Use better cameras on some Android phones

Having both phones can be helpful in mixed households where some people use Apple and others use Android. It can also help bridge the gap between work and personal life if someone’s workplace uses a different system.

However, having two phones has downsides:

    • It’s expensive – two phones cost more than one good phone
    • Phone numbers are hard to share between devices
    • Users must pay for two phone plans
    • Many people don’t need features from both systems

In the end, most people should stick to one phone unless they have specific needs for both systems. Those who can afford both phones and have good reasons to use them should feel free to do so.
