Bungie’s ‘Gummy Bears’ Game: New Insights on Gameplay and Features

Bungie ‘Gummy Bears Live Game

Following the recent layoffs at Bungie, a portion of the studio was retained by Sony to continue development on the project previously known as Gummy Bears.

Now under Sony’s direct control, the game has been revealed to be a team-based MOBA rather than a traditional fighting game, with new gameplay mechanics and a unique style.

Key Features of Gummy Bears

Smash Bros.-inspired Damage System: The game will feature a percentage damage system similar to Smash Bros., where characters are knocked back further as their damage percentage increases, with the potential to fall off the map.

MOBA Elements: While the game has fighting mechanics, it is primarily a MOBA with Support, Attack, and Defense classes. The game may also include dynamic souped-up Towers that move or gain different abilities.

Target Audience: The game’s lo-fi vibe is aimed at a younger audience, distinct from Bungie’s past titles like Halo or Destiny. It seeks to appeal to a demographic younger than games like League of Legends or DOTA.

Internal Feedback and Challenges

Despite its divergence from Bungie’s typical shooter genre, Gummy Bears is reportedly very fun internally and has received positive feedback from the team.

However, entering the highly competitive PvP multiplayer market presents significant challenges.

Games targeting a younger audience, like Splatoon or Among Us, have found success, but the risk remains high, as seen with games like Foamstars.

Will Gummy Bears Be a Success?

While the Smash Bros. MOBA concept is intriguing, the game still faces many uncertainties. Sony and Bungie are hoping for a success, especially after the mixed reception of Concord.

The live-service space is tough to crack, and only time will tell if Gummy Bears can make its mark.
