BTS leader RM has opened up about his emotional journey with music and his growing love for visual art.
In a recent interview on Samsung Newsroom’s YouTube channel, RM (Kim Namjoon) shared that while music remains his main passion, it sometimes brings complex emotions.
“Sometimes when I listen to great musicians’ albums, I get really jealous,” he admitted. RM explained that this feeling comes from his deep investment in music, where he finds it hard to stay objective.
In contrast, visual art brings him calm and comfort. RM said that during a tour stop, he visited the Art Institute of Chicago and was deeply moved by the works of Monet and Van Gogh. “My peace comes from knowing I’m not good at drawing,” he said with a laugh, adding that art allows him to enjoy beauty without the pressure of comparison.
The Indigo rapper, often praised for his refined taste in art, made it clear he’s just a passionate fan. “I didn’t major in art history… I just like it,” he said. His interest in art developed naturally over the years and continues to inspire his personal and creative life.
RM also addressed assumptions about the meaning behind his Instagram posts, saying his art shares are not political or commercial. “If I like it, I share it,” he explained, appreciating how fans have helped shine a light on lesser-known artists through his posts.
Looking ahead, RM revealed a long-term dream: to create a cultural space in Seoul that brings together people of all ages and backgrounds through art. “I want to build a place that connects generations and cultures,” he said.
