BTS leader Kim Namjoon, aka RM, made history by winning the Favorite K-pop Artist award at the 2025 American Music Awards (AMAs).
This win marks him as the first K-pop artist to win this award both as a soloist and as part of a group. Despite his win, RM could not attend the event as he is currently serving in the South Korean military. The award came after RM was nominated alongside top artists such as BLACKPINK’s Rosé, ATEEZ, BTS’ Jimin, and Stray Kids.
The official BTS Instagram announced Namjoon’s victory, thanking fans with the message, “Thank you for your love and support, #BTSARMY 💜.” RM himself expressed gratitude by reposting the announcement with the caption, “Thank you @amaz #ARMY 😘.”
Along with celebrating his win, RM shared news about BTS’s military discharge, writing, “It will be soon, seriously, soon.” Fans responded enthusiastically on Reddit, congratulating RM on his historic achievement and praising his solo album Right Place, Wrong Person (RPWP). Many highlighted the importance of RM’s fan-voted win, emphasizing his deserved recognition.
This AMA win also coincides with BTS members RM, V, Jimin, and Jungkook all scheduled to be discharged from military service next month, while Jin and J-Hope completed their service last year.
RM’s solo career has been steadily growing, with Right Place, Wrong Person receiving critical acclaim. BTS previously made history at the 2022 AMAs by winning Favorite Pop Duo or Group for four consecutive years. Fans are excited for RM’s upcoming return and the full group’s reunion after military service.
