BTS Hiatus Officially Ends as Final Members Finish Military Service

All seven members of BTS have finished their mandatory military service in South Korea, ending a nearly three-year hiatus for the world’s biggest K-pop group. The band is now preparing for their reunion and return to group activities in 2025.

    Staggered Military Service Timeline

BTS members enlisted at different times to fulfill South Korea’s mandatory military service requirement. All able-bodied men aged 18 to 28 must serve 18-21 months in the military.

    Discharge Timeline:

    • Jin (oldest member): Discharged June 2024
    • J-Hope: Discharged October 2024
    • RM and V: Discharged June 2025
    • Jimin and Jung Kook: Discharged June 2025
    • Suga: Discharged June 2025 (served as social service agent due to shoulder injury)

The group decided to take a break from activities in June 2022 to focus on solo projects and complete their military duties.

    Legal Requirements and Delays

BTS used a 2020 revision of South Korea’s Military Service Act that allowed K-pop stars to delay service until age 30. However, the members are not exempt from service, unlike some athletes and classical musicians who may receive exemptions for enhancing national prestige.

The group postponed their enlistments as long as legally possible but ultimately fulfilled their duty to serve.

    Fan Support and Safety Concerns

Fans worldwide gathered to welcome members upon their discharge, showing strong support throughout the hiatus period. However, some events raised concerns about safety and crowd control due to the massive number of supporters.

The global fanbase remained patient during the extended break, with members expressing gratitude for their loyalty.

    2025 Reunion Plans

BTS plans to reunite as a group sometime in 2025 after all members complete their military service. The band has teased a “remarkable comeback performance” for their return.

Members worked on individual projects during their break, allowing them to grow as solo artists while maintaining their group identity.

    Commitment to Duty and Fans

The military service period demonstrates BTS’s commitment to their national duty while maintaining strong connections with their global fanbase. Their decision to serve reflects the balance between international stardom and South Korean citizenship obligations.

The group’s anticipated reunion in 2025 is expected to mark a new chapter in their career, with new music and performances planned for their return.
