Fans of BTS received disappointing news on May 23 when it was revealed that the group’s planned concert in Qatar was cancelled. The reason behind this was Jungkook’s ongoing mandatory military service.
The news came during the 5th Qatar Economic Forum. Saad bin Ali Al Kharji, Chairman of Qatar’s Tourism Authority, shared that Qatar had hoped to invite BTS to perform.
However, Jungkook’s military commitments made it impossible for the group to travel to Qatar. They had also tried to invite BTS last year but faced the same problem.
BTS has been on a break since 2022 due to members enlisting in military service. Despite this, the group has remained in the spotlight through solo projects and hints of future tours.
Fans expressed their sadness on social media. Many called this a “lost opportunity” since Jungkook had to miss other major events, including a chance to perform with Usher at the 2024 Super Bowl. Some fans reminded others that Jungkook had performed in Qatar before, at the 2022 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony, and hoped the country would invite BTS again.
South Korean law requires all BTS members to complete military service, lasting 18 to 21 months. Jin, the oldest member, has finished his service. RM and V are set to finish on June 10, Jungkook on June 11, and Suga on June 21, 2025.
