On December 25th, Bluesky introduced a new feature to its mobile and web apps: Trending Topics, allowing users to see what’s currently popular on the platform.

How It Works

The new Trends feature can be accessed by selecting the search icon (magnifying glass). On mobile, this icon is located at the bottom of the screen, while on the web, it’s found in the left sidebar.

Once selected, a list of Trending and Recommended topics appears below the search bar. Users can tap on any topic to explore associated posts.

The feature is currently in its beta phase (V1), with Bluesky inviting user feedback to refine it further.

Customizing Your Experience

For users who prefer not to see the Trending Topics list, it can be easily disabled.

Simply tap the “x” in the upper-right corner of the list or navigate to Settings > Content & Media and toggle off the Enable trending topics option.

Bluesky’s Commitment to Iteration

The announcement emphasizes that the feature is still evolving. Bluesky stated, “We will be iterating with your feedback,” ensuring that the platform remains responsive to user preferences.

What’s Next for Bluesky?

Bluesky continues to position itself as a strong alternative in the social media landscape, with features like Trending Topics and a recently added Mentions tab.

As the hunt for the next Twitter heats up, Bluesky’s updates aim to enhance user engagement and discoverability.
