Bitcoin Hashrate Hits New High of 852 EH/s as Zettahash Era Approaches

Sazid KabirCryptoFebruary 9, 2025

On February 8, 2025, Bitcoin hashrate reached an unprecedented 852 exahashes per second (EH/s), surpassing its previous record of 840 EH/s just days earlier.

This surge in computational power signals Bitcoin’s progression toward the zettahash era, with the network nearing a 14.8% increase in hash capacity.

Bitcoin’s Growing Computational Power

As of February 8, 2025, Bitcoin’s processing speed has expanded drastically, and estimations suggest a 6.38% increase in mining difficulty.

While blocks are still processing at a pace that averages about 9 minutes and 24 seconds, the network is 85.2% shy of hitting the zettahash threshold, a monumental 1 sextillion operations per second.

Mining and Transaction Inertia

Despite the dramatic increase in hashpower, Bitcoin’s ecosystem continues to experience sluggish transaction speeds.

On the evening of February 8, only three blocks were awaiting validation, and over 5,000 transactions were pending. Mining pool Foundry led the charge, contributing 30.37% of the total network output.

As Bitcoin’s hashrate continues to soar, the zettahash milestone looms large, with the potential to transform the blockchain landscape even further.
