Free DAWs and Big Plugin Discounts: Summer Deals for Music Producers

Musicians and producers are getting new chances to upgrade their studios this summer with free software, major discounts on plugins, and new hardware updates.

Cakewalk Sonar Returns as Free Download

One of the main highlights is the return of Cakewalk Sonar, a popular digital audio workstation (DAW), now available again as a free download from BandLab. After briefly pausing the free version, BandLab has brought Sonar back with many of its well-known features.

These include unlimited tracks, support for VST plugins, and advanced editing tools. Users only need to create a free BandLab account to access it. While some advanced features are still paid, the free version is enough for most users to produce full songs without limits. BandLab has not announced how long the free option will stay available.

LANDR Launches New Vocal Plugin Bundle

LANDR has introduced a Vocal Plugin Bundle aimed at both beginners and professionals recording vocals at home. The bundle includes four tools:

  • Vox Chain: EQ, compression, saturation, and automatic gain control.
  • Vox Verb: Reverb designed for vocals, with stereo, warmth, and brightness options.
  • Vox Tune: Real-time pitch correction for subtle fixes or creative vocal effects.
  • Vox DS: A de-esser to reduce harsh “S” sounds, with visual feedback.

The bundle is on sale for $160, reduced from $229. Individual plugins are available separately, and a 7-day free trial lets users try the tools before buying. The bundle is also part of LANDR’s subscription plans.

Eventide, Acoustica Audio, and Native Instruments Announce New Deals and Updates

Several other companies are offering new products and discounts:

Eventide is holding its biggest plugin sale of the year, with up to 80% off. Popular effects like ShimmerVerb and Spring Reverb are now $19 each. Advanced immersive mixing tools like Blackhole Immersive are also discounted.

Melbourne Instruments updated its Roto Control MIDI controller, adding support for Bitwig Studio, motorized knobs, haptic feedback, and better integration with Ableton Live. It now also supports Linux.

Acoustica Audio released Expanse 5, a synthesizer that recreates vintage analog sounds using convolution and circuit modeling. It supports 2 to 10 voice polyphony and comes with a 30-day free trial.

Native Instruments launched the MR1 Valve Data drum machine for Kontakt. It mixes modular tube processing with live control. There’s also a new Jazz Hop Leap expansion for warm jazz and hip-hop loops.
