Apple Stops Regular Updates for iPhone 8 and 7 Plus — Here’s What It Means

Apple has added the iPhone 8 (64GB and 256GB) and the iPhone 7 Plus to its vintage products list. This means these phones will no longer get regular iOS updates or guaranteed repairs at Apple stores. Apple marks devices as vintage when they are between five and seven years old.

Phones on the vintage list may still get important security patches, but they will stop receiving new features and routine updates. Apple will offer repairs and parts for up to seven years after the device stops selling, depending on parts availability.

Security experts warn that older iPhones can be more vulnerable to cyberattacks because they do not get all security updates. Adam Boynton from Jamf advises users to keep their phones updated with the latest iOS and think about upgrading when support ends.

Other iPhones on the vintage list include the iPhone X and XS Max. Older phones like the iPhone 6 and 5S are now classified as obsolete and are no longer supported.

If you use an iPhone 8 or 7 Plus, you can still use your phone safely if you install all available updates. But it is a good idea to plan for an upgrade in the next couple of years to stay protected.
