Apple is set to improve iPhone battery life this year with a mix of software and hardware upgrades. The changes will come with iOS 27 and larger batteries in the iPhone 18 Pro series.
The update, expected in September, will launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone 18 Fold. iOS 27 will also transform Siri into a smarter AI assistant, similar to ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.
Reports say Apple is rewriting parts of iOS 27 to improve performance. This will reduce unnecessary background processes and make apps like Calculator and Compass run more efficiently, saving battery.
The iPhone’s Neural Engine will also become more efficient. Apple may “drip-feed” AI tasks based on battery health and temperature, preventing quick battery drain during heavy AI use.
iOS 27 will also improve how the phone re-indexes files and photos after an update. This process, which currently drains battery in the first 48 hours, will now run more gradually in the background.
Battery sizes are getting a boost too. The iPhone 18 Pro may see an 18.7% increase to 4,252 mAh, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max could top 5,088 mAh, the first iPhone over 5,000 mAh.
Rumors suggest the iPhone 18 Fold could have a massive battery between 5,500–5,800 mAh, possibly split across two cells due to its foldable design.
For iPhone users who care about battery life, 2026 looks set to be a big year.
